One PRP session platelet-rich plasma, on the day of the procedure
Oxygen therapy session

Not included

  • Flights to and from Istanbul
  • A fourth night or later (€135 per extra night), and a second person in the room (€25 per night)
  • Meals other than those the hotel itself provides
  • Optional add-on treatments — Regenera Activa and exosome therapy
  • A second session, if one is planned for a later year
  • Medication a doctor prescribes beyond the aftercare kit

The number on the card is the number you pay. It is a package price, quoted in euro, and it covers the medical work, the pre-operative testing, the stay and the aftercare. Nothing in the list below is charged again on arrival.

Publishing the exclusions matters as much as publishing the inclusions. A package that lists only what it contains leaves the reader to discover the rest at the door, and that is where most complaints about hair transplant cost begin. The non-medical part is also optional: if you would rather arrange your own hotel and transfers, those can be taken out and the total adjusted. The medical scope does not change either way.

The short answer

The hair transplant cost in Turkey at Hair of Istanbul is €4,000 for 1,500-2,500 grafts, €4,500 for 2,500-3,500 grafts and €5,000 above 3,500 grafts, as an all-inclusive package. At €4,500 for a 3,000-graft session that is roughly €1.50 per graft. What decides which band you fall into is the planned graft count, and the graft count is set by donor capacity and the size of the area being covered — not by the implantation technique, which carries no surcharge here.

Hair Transplant Cost by Country

Hair transplant cost comparison tables in this field are usually built from other clinics’ advertising. This one is not. Every figure below comes from a national health service, a peer-reviewed paper or a named publication, and where no such figure exists we say so instead of estimating one.

Published hair transplant cost figures by country, with sources
Country Published figure What it covers Source
Türkiye — Hair of Istanbul €4,000 – €5,000 All-inclusive package, scalp This page
United Kingdom £1,000 – £30,000 Whole procedure NHS
United States $4,000 – $15,000 Whole procedure Consumer health publishers; no professional-society figure is published
United Arab Emirates AED 12,000 – 50,000 Whole procedure, clinicians quoted in 2019 Khaleej Times, 2019
Germany about €3,000 – €9,000 Whole procedure, by number of hairs transplanted Apotheken Umschau, independent consumer health publisher

Two cautions about reading any hair transplant cost comparison. The first comes from the field’s own professional body: the ISHRS states plainly that the average fee in its census “should not be construed as a typical price for a hair restoration procedure”. The second is that the ranges above cover wildly different scopes — the British figure is a procedure, ours is a procedure plus testing, transfers, a hotel and aftercare. A per-graft number is only comparable when the two packages contain the same things.

Does DHI, Sapphire or Slit Change the Price?

No. DHI with an implanter pen, sapphire-blade incisions and slit implantation are the same price here, and a technique is never sold as an upgrade.

So the technique is chosen for the scalp in front of us — graft calibre, skin thickness, how tight the existing hair is, how much of the recipient area is already occupied — and the hair transplant cost is identical whichever is used. Charging more for a blade whose advantage has been shown in tissue trauma but not in hair yield would be charging ahead of the evidence.

What a Price Has to Cover to Be Safe

A hair transplant cost can be lowered by taking margin out of it or by taking work out of it, and from the outside the two look identical. The items below are the ones that published standards treat as required rather than optional, which makes them a usable checklist against any quotation, ours included.

  • Pre-operative screening. Published guidance lists haemoglobin and blood counts including platelets, bleeding and clotting time, blood chemistry and glucose, with an ECG and viral serology where indicated. A medication review for bleeding risk is described as essential.
  • A facility equipped for emergencies. Published guidance states the procedure can be performed safely as an outpatient day case where the theatre is equipped for monitoring and for handling emergencies, and where staff are familiar with the emergency plan.
  • Sterility and waste handling. Regulator standards require sterile instruments, a sterilisation and disinfection area, hand hygiene and protective equipment protocols, and medical waste management.
  • Informed consent in writing. Consent should state the limitations of the procedure and whether more than one session may be needed, and it should be kept in the patient record.
  • Aftercare and follow-up. Gentle cleansing within 24 to 72 hours supports re-epithelialisation, and close follow-up matters for how crusts come away. Follow-up visits are part of the standard, and a clinic should have a way of dealing with a complication outside working hours.
  • Realistic expectation setting. Regulator material tells patients to expect proper growth about nine months after the procedure — a page that promises a finished result sooner is not describing this operation.

What Turkish Law Requires of a Clinic

Turkey is often described as cheap for this procedure without anyone mentioning that it also regulates it specifically. Hair transplant units are governed by a dedicated national regulation, the Saç Ekimi Birimleri Hakkında Yönetmelik, published in the Official Gazette on 6 May 2023 under number 32182.

It sets a minimum application-room size of 16 square metres with surfaces that can be cleaned and disinfected; it requires a defined minimum inventory of equipment and a defined minimum emergency drug and equipment kit; it requires surgical instruments and intervention sets to be sterile; it requires written informed consent from every patient with photographs of the donor and recipient areas attached before the procedure; it requires patient records to be entered in the Ministry of Health’s electronic system; and it subjects units to state inspection at least once a year, with administrative sanctions attached.

This matters to a hair transplant cost in both directions. It is a reason to be less anxious about the country. It is also a standard you can hold any Turkish clinic to, because it applies to all of them.

Hidden Costs, and How to Find Them

“No hidden fees” is a claim every clinic makes, so it is not information. What is information is the list of places a hair transplant cost usually grows after the quotation, and whether a written quote closes each of them.

  • Graft count on the day. Ask whether the price changes if the planned count is exceeded during the procedure. Here it does not — the band is agreed before, and the band is what you pay.
  • Technique. Ask whether DHI, sapphire or slit carries a surcharge. Here it does not.
  • Nights and transfers. Three nights with breakfast and every transfer — airport to hotel, hotel to clinic and back, hotel to airport — are inside the price. A longer stay is €135 a night. If you would rather not take the hotel and transfers at all, that part can be removed and the total adjusted.
  • Medication and aftercare products. Ask whether the aftercare kit is included or sold at the clinic afterwards.
  • The follow-up PRP that appears later. Ask how many sessions the price contains. One is included here; further sessions are €150 and optional.
  • A second session. Ask whether the plan being quoted is expected to finish the job or whether a second session is anticipated. A second session is a separate procedure with its own price; nothing on the cards above covers one.
  • Currency and payment. Ask which currency the price is fixed in. Ours is euro, and it does not vary by nationality.

Hair Transplant Cost in Turkey: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a hair transplant cost in Turkey?

At Hair of Istanbul, €4,000 for 1,500–2,500 grafts, €4,500 for 2,500–3,500 grafts and €5,000 above 3,500 grafts, all-inclusive. Specialised procedures are priced separately: revision €5,000, beard €5,500, eyebrow €2,500 and scar work €2,000.

What is the hair transplant cost per graft?

At €4,500 for a 3,000-graft session the arithmetic is about €1.50 a graft. Per-graft figures are only useful for comparing packages that contain the same things: a per-graft price that excludes the blood panel, the anaesthesia assessment, the hotel and the aftercare is not the same number as one that includes them.

How much is a 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 or 5,000-graft hair transplant?

2,000 grafts falls in the 1,500–2,500 band, so €4,000. 3,000 grafts falls in the 2,500–3,500 band, so €4,500. 4,000 and 5,000 grafts both fall in the 3,500+ band, so €5,000 — the price does not keep climbing with the count. Whether 3,000 or 5,000 is the right number for you is decided from donor density and the area being covered, not from the band you would prefer to be in, and a donor area that cannot safely give 5,000 units does not become able to because a plan asks for them.

Why is a hair transplant cheaper in Turkey than in the UK or the US?

Mostly because the cost base is different — salaries, premises and the exchange rate — and because Turkish clinics operate at a volume that keeps theatre time occupied. A lower hair transplant cost in Turkey is not the result of a step being removed: hair transplant units are governed by a dedicated 2023 national regulation that mandates sterile instruments, an emergency kit, written photographic consent and annual state inspection.

Does the DHI, sapphire or slit technique change the price?

No. All three are the same price here. The peer-reviewed literature supports implanter placement for reduced crush injury and shorter operating time but does not establish better growth, and the published comparison of sapphire against steel measured tissue injury across blade geometries rather than hair yield. A technique surcharge would be charging for a difference that has been measured in the incision, not in the result.

What is included in the hair transplant cost?

Consultation before and after, an interpreter, airport and clinic transfers, hotel accommodation for the nights covering the procedure and the first wash, digital scalp analysis, hairline design, ECG and anaesthesia assessment, a full blood panel, local anaesthesia, one PRP session, oxygen therapy, the aftercare kit, and a patient support line. Flights, extra nights, meals outside the hotel and optional add-on treatments are not included.

How many grafts do I need, and who decides?

The count is set by two limits: how many follicular units the donor area can give up without visible thinning — published guidance puts safe single-pass extraction at 10 to 15 units per cm² and says 40 to 50 units per cm² must remain — and how many the bald area needs at about 50 units per cm². The plan is made from digital scalp analysis at consultation, not from a photograph.

Is there a graft count for each Norwood stage?

Not a reliable one, which is why this page does not publish that table. In the study behind the PRECISE scale, two men both classified Norwood-Hamilton 3V required 3,900 and 6,150 grafts because of head size, and Norwood 5 and Norwood 6 patients both came out near 9,000. Stage describes a pattern; it does not measure an area.

Is a deposit required to book?

The joint guidelines issued by BAHRS, BAAPS, BAPRAS and TSPRAS in 2023 recommend that a patient be given two weeks to consider the recommendation and the consent form before making any payment. We think that is the right standard, and we would rather you used the time.

Are there hidden costs?

The exclusions are published above rather than left to be discovered. The places a hair transplant cost usually grows are graft count on the day, technique surcharges, extra nights, aftercare products, additional PRP and an unannounced second session — the checklist in the hidden costs section is written so you can put those questions to any clinic.

How much does an eyebrow transplant cost in Turkey?

€2,500 as an all-inclusive package at Hair of Istanbul, covering consultation, brow design, extraction, single-graft implantation, accommodation, transfers and aftercare. The eyebrow transplant page sets out how the design and the graft count are planned.

Does insurance cover a hair transplant?

Generally no. Pattern hair loss is treated as an aesthetic indication, and Germany’s statutory insurer AOK states directly that the procedure is not a benefit of statutory health insurance. Cover for reconstruction after burns or scarring is decided case by case by the insurer.

What is the difference between the packages?

Only the graft range. The medical scope, the testing, the stay and the aftercare are identical in all three, which is why the hair transplant cost steps are small: a larger session is a longer session, not a different operation.

Can I get a price without travelling to Istanbul?

Yes. Photographs of the front, crown and donor area are enough for a graft range and therefore a band. The range is confirmed with digital scalp analysis on the day, before anything begins, and the band agreed beforehand is the band you pay.
